The University of Minnesota’s Housing & Residential Life promotes student safety through secure building access, surveillance cameras, and locked community bathrooms. Residents are encouraged to report concerns and use resources like 624-WALK, Gopher Chauffeur, and the Rave Guardian app to travel safely to and from residence halls.
Secure U is the University of Minnesota’s hub for cybersecurity awareness, offering tips and tools to protect personal and University data. It provides guidance on safe passwords, device security, phishing awareness, multi-factor authentication, VPN use, and secure email. The site also shares scam alerts, advisories, and training resources.
Sexual Misconduct Prevention Program (SMPP)
The Sexual Misconduct Prevention Program develops, coordinates, and evaluates sexual misconduct prevention and response for students, staff, and faculty using evidence-based and data-driven strategies. SMPP provides prevention programs including Cultivating Awareness and Prevention of Sexual Violence required of all incoming students.
Student Legal Service attorny's provide free legal advice, representation, and education to eligible UMN students. Services include tenant rights, immigration, consumer, criminal, employment, wills, health care directives, and name and gender change processes. SLS also offers notary services and programs on business start-ups and mentoring.
The Department of Public Safety (DPS) maintains a safe campus through 24/7 emergency services, community outreach, and crime prevention. DPS includes the University of Minnesota Police Department (UMPD), University Security, Emergency Management, and the Emergency Communications Center. Services like the 624-WALK safety escort program, the Rave Guardian safety app, and crime reporting help students stay safe and informed.
